Flanked by majestic mountains and one of the planet's most unique geological curiosities, golf courses of Greater Yellowstone offer their own tasty blend of championship layouts in a setting that most of us only know from postcards.

Of particular interest are the facilities dotting the map around Jackson, Wyo. Here are a few of our favorites:

Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club

We love this course for its abundant scenery and beautifully manicured condition. It’s also an incredible challenge from any of its 5 sets of tees. Sand and water can be encountered throughout the course, but it’s all fairly placed.

The course benefited from a massive renovation in 2007 to the tune of $15 million, resulting in some completely redesigned holes, new tee boxes and a fleet of luxury carts. The property also features a quartet of tennis courts, a gigantic swimming pool and a restaurant.

Teton Pines Golf & Country Club

One of our longtime favorite tracks here at MWG, Teton Pines is the quintessential mountain resort course. Designed from a collaboration between Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, it includes all the upscale practice areas and amenities you’d expect, plus special instruction and clinics for juniors and ladies.

The course offers six sets of tee boxes ranging from 5,400 yards to 7,400 yards. As Teton Pines itself rightly claims, holes 15-18 are four of best finishing holes you’ll ever play.

Teton Springs Resort & Club

We can sum up this wonder of luxury recreation in two words: world class. Just a stone’s throw over the pass in Idaho’s Teton Valley, Teton Springs’ 780-acre resort community combines top-rated golf adventure with some of the finest amenities in the West.

In addition to the main 18-hole championship course, the Headwaters, the property also offers up an excellent nine-hole track, the Nelson. Both are the creation of golf great Byron Nelson, U.S. Open champ Steve Jones and renowned architect Gary Stephenson.

The main course has 5 tee boxes ranging from 7,373 Yards at the tips to 5,416 yards from the forward tees. The Nelson nine is a nice charmer for inexperienced players looking to hone their skills. It features 9 par 3’s ranging from 70 to 210 yards, and each green has 2 holes: one regulation sized and one oversized.
